Indus Valley Civilization GK notes – Welcome to GKcoaching.in! Today in this class we will discuss about the Indus Valley civilization GK notes. Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) is an important part of the Ancient history syllabus. Major questions comes from this part. Here in this class we will discuss all the important topics related to IVC and Harappan civilization, its different sites and their excavations.

Indus Valley Civilization GK notes

# The northern-most point of the IVC (Indus Valley Civilization) was known as Manda which is in J&K near Chinab river.

# The eastern-most point of the IVC was known as Alamgirpur which is in Uttar Pradesh.

# The western-most point of the IVC was known as Sutkagendor which is in Balochistan, Pakistan near Dasht river.

# The southern-most point of the IVC was known as Daimabad which is in Maharashtra near Godavari river.

The Indus Valley Civilization has different sites which were found during excavations. Questions related to these sites comes in exam. Let’s check them one by one with their characteristics and features.

Harappa (Harappan civilization)

# It is located in Sahiwal district, Punjab, Pakistan.

# It is situated near Raavi river.

# The site was excavated (खुदाई) in the year 1921.

# Harappa site was excavated by Dayaram Sahani.

# Things which were found after this site was excavated – coffin burial, granaries, first town of Indus Valley civilization.

Rakhigarhi

# Rakhigarhi is located in Hisar, Haryana.

# The site is considered as the largest site of IVC.

# The site was excavated in the year 1997-2000.

# Rakhigarhi was excavated by Amarendra Nath.

# Things which were founded after the excavation of the site – terracotta wheels (मिटटी के पहिये), toys, figurines (मूर्तियां), pottery (मिटटी के बर्तन).

Mohanjodaro (Mohenjo daro civilization)

# It is located in Sindh, Pakistan.

# Mohanjodaro also called as mound of dead.

# It is situated near Sindhu river.

# The site was excavated (खुदाई) in the year 1922.

# Mohanjodaro site was excavated by Rakhal das Banerjee.

# Things which were found after this site was excavated – great bath, terracotta toys, great granary, bearded man, dancing girl made up of bronze metal, pashupati seal, bull seal, woven cloth, cylindrical seals.

# Mohanjodaro was considered as the most developed urban area during that time.

Alamgirpur

# Alamgirpur is located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

# It is situated near Hindon river.

# Alamgirpur was excavated in the year 1958.

# The site was excavated by Y.D. Sharma.

# Important finding after the excavation of the site – खुदाई के दौरान दबे हुए कपड़े.

Chanhudaro

# It is located in Sindh, Pakistan.

# It is situated near Sindhu river.

# The site was excavated (खुदाई) in the year 1934.

# This site was excavated by Gopal Majumdar.

# Things which were found after the excavation of this site – wooden comb, black liner kajal, elephant teeth comb, bead (माला) making factory, lipstick use.

# Mostly the fashionable things were found in this site.

Kalibanga (Indus Valley Civilization GK notes)

# Kalibanga is located in Rajasthan.

# It is situated near Ghaggar river.

# Kalibanga was excavated in the year 1961.

# Kalibanga was excavated by Bal krishna Thapar, Brij basi Lal.

# Black bangles were found here. (यहाँ काली चूड़ियाँ सबसे ज्यादा पाई गई)

# Things found after the excavation of this site – black bangles, burnt bangles, bones of camel, Shiva lingam.

Sutkagendor

# Sutkagendor is located in Balochistan, Pakistan.

# It is located near Dasht river.

# Sutkagendor was excavated in the year 1927.

# Sutkagendor was excavated by R.L. Stein.

# It was the main trade point between Harappa and Babylon.

Lothal

# Lothal is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

# Situated near Bhogwa river.

# This site was excavated in the year 1955-62.

Larkana

# Located in Punjab, India.

Dholavira (Indus valley Civilization GK notes)
